Licensed amateur radio and GMRS operators are invited to participate regardless of organizational affiliation!
The Prairie Voice exercise is designed to test the ability of Illinois Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) operators, Illinois National Guard (ING) Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), AUXCOMM operators, and ITECS portable communications units to maintain vital communication links during a major disaster. This exercise will test critical interoperability between amateur radio operators and the Illinois National Guard, Illinois Emergency Agency, and other state/federal agencies.
The exercise will specifically focus on radio communication between Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois using CW (Morse Code), SSB (Single Sideband), 2-meter FM, GMRS, and Winlink. A major goal of this exercise is to relay a message from far southern Illinois to northern Illinois using 2-meter simplex mode.
The exercise schedule and frequency lists can be foundĀ here.
