About

Welcome to the Kane County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) website.

Kane County ARES is a group of licensed amateur radio operators who have registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in any local or national organization, is eligible for membership in the Amateur Radio Emergency Service. The only qualification, other than possession of an Amateur Radio license, is a sincere desire to serve.

Because ARES is an amateur service, only amateurs are eligible for membership. The possession of emergency-powered equipment is desirable, but is not a requirement for membership. When called upon, we provide communications assistance to public safety organizations and service organizations in Kane County. Some examples of our activities include providing communications for various parades, bike races, 10k runs, etc. We hold monthly meetings and conduct training sessions and drills to improve our skills and increase our value to our served agencies. We also operate a weekly emergency net in conjunction with the Kane County Office of Emergency Management.
