Terrance PoggeOn July 31st/August 1st 2026 Kane County ARES will be participating in an Illinois statewide functional exercise called Prairie Voice 2026!
The exercise simulates the communication challenges that would be caused by an earthquake involving the New Madrid Seismic Zone. Along with Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES/AUXCOMM) operators, the exercise will involve:
Illinois National Guard (ING)
Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
Illinois State Police (ISP)
Civil Air Patrol (CAP)
Many county and city Emergency Management Agencies
Many disaster relief organizations
ARES/AUXCOMM operators will use various modes of communication in the exercise, including High Frequency radio voice and data, Very High Frequency/Ultra High Frequency voice, and even Morse Code. We’re very excited to be included in this exercise!
